Reading....Rainbow?

If you aren't familiar with the controversy surrounding the book "The Secret", you might find the critics quite amusing. Comedians, including Saturday Night Live, had made fun of "The Secret" and Oprah's strong support of the novel, have mocked the premise of this book, but I think it could be something different:

I have yet to read the book (my spring break to-do), but I think people are taking it too much on its face. Yes, it basically says that if you wish (/think/dream) of an end goal, you WILL achieve it. From obtaining expensive handbags, to a new home, to winning a lottery, the author says it is all possible if you believe in it hard enough.

Now, that may be a BIT over the top, but beneath it all I think it portrays a good message: If you have a positive attitude about life, if you keep telling yourself that you can do anything or achieve anything, the benefits in your life will be much stronger compared to a "debbie downer". We'll see if my opinion changes AFTER I read the book, but hopefully I find it inspiring enough to influence my work career (for the better!)

i had never even heard about this book until our class. i think the author had a dream of getting rich by those willing to buy his book even though they don't need it lol! it's common sense that if you set goals for yourself and actually WORK and FOCUS at them you'll reap the rewards. i don't need to read a book to tell me that.
